Aftercare Instructions

Following your dentist’s post-procedure instructions is the most important step in a smooth recovery. General guidance is summarized below; your doctor will provide specific written instructions after your visit that supersede anything on this page.

  • After fillings or crowns: avoid hot or hard foods on the treated side for the first 24 hours. Mild sensitivity for a few days is normal.
  • After extractions: bite gently on gauze for 30–45 minutes, avoid straws, spitting, and smoking for 24 hours to protect the blood clot.
  • After root canal: mild tenderness is normal. Take any prescribed antibiotics as directed and avoid chewing on the treated tooth until your final crown is placed.
  • After whitening: avoid staining foods and drinks (coffee, tea, red wine, berries) for 24–48 hours.
  • Dental emergencies: severe pain, uncontrolled bleeding, or significant swelling should be reported right away by calling our office.
